Na podzim roku 1987 vyděsí celý Hawkins otevřené trhliny a naši hrdinové mají rázem nový cíl: najít a zabít Vecnu. Ten ale jako by se do země propadl – neví se, kde je ani co má za lubem. Aby to měli ještě těžší, úřady vyhlásily ve městě karanténu a s pomocí armády usilovně pátrají po Jedenáctce, která se tím pádem zase musí skrývat. S blížícím se výročím Willova zmizení se navíc vrací i děsivá stará hrozba. Schyluje se k rozhodující bitvě, temnota je čím dál silnější a vražedná jako nikdy dřív. Na tuhle noční můru bude platit jediné: celá parta musí až do konce táhnout za jeden provaz
