Palworld je multiplayerový open-world survival, kde sa vydáte do farebného sveta, obývaného záhadnými tvormi. Títo tvorovia síce na prvý pohľad silne pripomínajú známych Pokémonov, ale rozdiel spočíva v tom, že v Palworlde sa pustíte do boja s malými i veľkými príšerkami zvanými Pal, a to za pomoci strelných zbraní v podobe luku, útočných pušiek a brokovníc. To znamená, že rozprávkový a roztomilý vzhľad celého sveta je len pozlátkom a vo svojom jadre ide o násilný titul.
Príšerky Pal môžete rozmnožovať, predávať, posielať ich pracovať na farmu či otročiť do vašich tovární, kde môžu vyrábať zbrane, alebo ich posielať na prieskum okolitého sveta. Keď vás budú nudiť, môžete ich zabiť a zjesť, aj keď tieto činy sú obmedzené miestnymi zákonmi.
